  • World Day of Prayer in Tübingen, Germany

On March 7, 2026, the Adventist Church in Tübingen held a service organized by the Women’s Ministries group for the Women's World Day of Prayer, with this year's motto “Come! Bring your burdens.” Every year, women in different countries around the world are the focus of this interdenominational day of prayer. This time, the focus was on women in Nigeria. A slide show provided information about the lives of Nigerian women. There are great differences in this large and populous country. Of particular interest was how Adventist women in Nigeria live their faith. Prayers were offered for the challenges women face, and thanks were given for their courage in serving God and their fellow human beings despite difficulties.
A special highlight was having a real Nigerian woman as a guest. Phoebe is the wife of a Protestant pastor and had to flee her homeland with her family 10 years ago, when her church was destroyed. In an interview, she confirmed that our information about the situation of the people in Nigeria is correct and thanked us for taking up the issue. She then showed how the women tie their head coverings from the colorfully printed fabrics.
In the spiritual reflection, we were invited to take the following steps, based on three Bible passages:
1. Lay down our burdens at Jesus’ feet and go through life with him.
2. Help to carry the burdens of others – be attentive to the needs around us.
3. Receive new strength – Jesus invites us to ask him for it.
We were also able to symbolically lay down our burdens by placing a stone in a basket. Beautiful instrumental music enhanced the service. Despite all the burdens addressed, the hymn “Be joyful in hope” created a joyful, confident atmosphere at the end.
