  • Women’s Ministries Meeting at the Sicilian Spiritual Congress

There comes a moment when words cease to be mere sounds and become life itself. This is what we experienced during the Women’s Ministries (WM) meeting on April 25. The event took place as part of the Sicilian Spiritual Congress in Piazza Armerina. We were guided by Pastor Abigaela Trofin and Eliana Di Marco, respectively the national director and regional coordinator of the WM.

The theme, “Beyond Fear: Women Who Build,” touched our hearts. In a time marked by uncertainty, pressure, and inner fragility, one truth emerged strongly: fear often paralyzes us, but it does not define who we are. We fear not being enough, fear for our children’s future, fear of others’ judgment. Yet, right there, God continues to call.

Support Groups

The retreat began with a sincere and timely reflection that gave voice to what many women experience in silence. During the meeting, the “Support Groups” project was presented, conceived as true cells of life for the church and the local community; places where faith and daily life meet. These are groups of women ready to walk together in prayer, mutual support, and mission.

The Thread of Sisterhood

One of the most powerful moments was “The Thread of Sisterhood.” Each woman received a ribbon on which she wrote a fear of her own to entrust to God. Then, the ribbons were tied together, woven, and transformed. Thus, what had been a limitation became a bond; what had been a burden became a shared strength. In that simple gesture, a profound truth became visible: no one is alone.

Each ribbon on its own is fragile, but when knotted and woven with the others, it becomes a strong ball of yarn. We too, on our own, are full of fears; with Jesus, however, and alongside other women, we become strong. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7NIV).

Then, “The Table of Mission and Perfume” opened our gaze outward. The small scented sachets, dedicated to loved ones or those in need, reminded us that faith does not remain closed off; it spreads, reaches out, and comforts. Just as a scent travels through invisible spaces, so prayer becomes a living presence in the world.

Three Experiences

Another special moment was the testimony of three women from different ethnic backgrounds and life paths, who shared stories of great strength and the ability to take action. Despite their pasts, they found the strength to rebuild themselves, often after overcoming deep fears, deceit, or silence. They know how to listen, and with God, they transform fears into constructive energy.

Conclusion

“We are women of faith. Fear has no power over us” was the closing message of the event, sealed with a communal prayer. What made the gathering even more meaningful was the atmosphere, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The tea corner, stocked with fragrant herbal teas and fresh flowers, welcomed every participant, creating a warm, familiar, and authentic space. Because hospitality is also a ministry, and it is often the first step toward dispelling fears.

This gathering was a beginning, a seed planted in the hearts of women, an invitation to build, together, beyond all fear. And perhaps the most beautiful thing is this: when a woman finds the courage, she not only changes her own life, she also changes the world around her.
