  • Women’s Meeting in Tübingen, Germany

On April 8, twelve women gathered in Tübingen for their monthly women’s meeting, this time under the theme "Frieden tun" (Working for Peace.) They were greeted with posters featuring quotes such as:

Peace is not a state—peace is a process.
Peace needs voices that are heard.
No community project is complete without women.
Working for peace means understanding the past.
Peace arises through dialogue and relationships.

They also had the opportunity to examine 20 portraits of women displayed on the tables to discover what these women had in common. These were women who had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize since 1905.

Inspired by the Women’s Museum in Hittisau (Vorarlberg, Austria), they viewed a presentation featuring historical examples, biographical portraits, documentary material, and artistic works by women who have advocated for peace. Looking at women’s involvement in peace efforts in Colombia, Northern Ireland, and Rwanda highlighted how women influence and promote the peace process and reconciliation. At the end, the women creatively designed a card featuring a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until you put her in hot water.”

At these meetings, women come together to consider various topics and build community. The range of topics spans women’s history (March is Women’s History Month) and women’s rights (International Women’s Day), cooking together, violence prevention (enditnow® – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), sewing classes, wellness evenings, film nights on women’s issues, and making heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients. The women’s group is also part of the work of the Adventist Welfare Organization’s volunteer group.
