  • Women’s Prayer Day  in Hamburg

With great anticipation and eager excitement, I set off for Women’s Ministries (WM) Day at the Hamburg Ghana SDA Church. I picked up my friend Petra at the main train station, and together we drove on to Niendorf—full of curiosity about what awaited us on this special day.

Even in the run-up to the event, it was clear how heartfelt the week was: The sisters of the Ghana SDA Church had already begun their week of prayer on Sunday via Zoom. Various speakers shared thoughts, experiences, and words of encouragement on the topic of prayer—each in her own unique way. “A Woman, Faith & Prayer”—this theme ran like a thread through the entire week and reached its climax on Women’s Sabbath. Ivy Osei touched our hearts with her message and made clear what power lies in prayer and in trust in God.

Since the service was held in the local language Asante-Twi, I was grateful that a translation was available for Petra and me, allowing us to understand the message clearly. Another very special moment was seeing the women dressed in beautiful dresses in the colors of the WM department, lovingly designed and full of expression. It was not only a feast for the eyes, but also a visible sign of fellowship, joy, and dignity. The service was filled with lively music, powerful singing, and rousing dance. You could literally feel the joy—it was contagious, profound, and genuine. With hearts full of gratitude and joy, we finally set off for our next destination.

In the afternoon, Petra and I visited the Hamburg-Latina International Adventist Church, where the Women’s Day of Prayer was also being celebrated. Yasna Gaete preached, translated by Fernanda Pereira. Even though we didn’t arrive until noon, we were warmly welcomed—and greeted right at the entrance by the delicious aroma of Dominican rice, which immediately gave us a feeling of home. The afternoon was lovingly organized by Lissi and Salome. With games, fellowship, and a devotional, they created a beautiful and warm conclusion to this special day.

Filled with many impressions, encounters, and spiritual inspiration, we look back gratefully on this Women’s Sabbath—a day full of fellowship, faith, and lived joy.
