  • Weekend for Young Women in SDA Church in Madrid, Spain

On the weekend of March 12-13, 2025, MAR (Mujeres Alenzanas en Red), which is the Women's Ministries department of the Adventist Church in Alenza, developed an interesting activity called Red Sea. More than 60 girls, teenagers, young women, and adult women clearly talked about menstruation, without taboos and in a safe environment. This activity aimed to talk about menstruation in a natural, scientific, and Christian way. Several professionals in the medical field explored the various stages of the menstrual cycle, resolving doubts, teaching with stories, dispelling erroneous beliefs, and aiming to normalize this process that unites all women worldwide.
The first part addressed the menstrual cycle with a biblical approach and how it was treated in ancient times, focusing on Leviticus 15:19-33, followed by interactive talks divided by age, to know the different stages and changes of the body over the years. Despite being a normal period every month in the lives of young women, it is no secret that it continues to be misunderstood, often stigmatized, and not talked about or known. There is still a great taboo about the subject and a lot of silence about the natural cycle of women's lives. The idea of seeing blood is still considered dirty, impure, and painful.
A gift from God
It is interesting to see how the Bible presents all the topics of daily life, and this is no exception. We studied the care that God designed and how we should take during the menstrual cycle. Even in the New Testament, we see God's loving treatment of the woman with the flow of blood. That's right, Luke chapter 8 makes us reflect and see a loving God who cares for every detail.
The initiative of MAR had several fundamental objectives: To know, normalize, and accept the menstrual cycle with love. To remember that it is a natural gift of God in women and that it prepares the body to bring life. To share in healthy practices, experiences, and care among friends and sisters of the church. To provide education and care practices necessary to break the stigma and discrimination against menstruation.
Thank you, MAR for creating these activities that help us to live the biblical principle of caring, guiding, and strengthening each other.
