A new Seventh-day Adventist International Biblical-Theological Dictionary has been launched that will be a great help for anyone who wants to know more about the Bible.
In the introduction to the new biblical-theological dictionary, the founding editor, Ekkehardt Müller of the Biblical Research Institute, writes:
Siegfried H. Horn’s Bible dictionary, published under the name Seventh-day Adventist Bible Dictionary (SDABC, published in 1960 and revised in 1979) was a standard work among readers and researchers for decades and one of the best one-volume Bible dictionaries. However, this volume is no longer in print in English. So, the need arose to come up with a new dictionary. This need was discussed by the Biblical Research Institute of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (BRI), and a proposal to publish a new dictionary was approved by General Conference leadership. It became one of the responsibilities of BRI to work on this project and publish it either in book form or electronically or both.
The SDAIBTD’s target audience consists of informed church members, pastors, and Bible professors/theologians, whether Adventists, other Christians, or non-Christians. The biblical entries are based on the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts of Scripture. Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek terms that are used in a specific entry are shown in transliterated form and italics for easier access.
The editorial team is excited to present the Seventh-day Adventist Biblical-Theological Dictionary to its audience and believes it can be useful to Bible students. We acknowledge all the diligent work of the contributors to the project. We acknowledge the extensive work of assistant editors and associate editors, all of whom are members or former members of BRI, and, most of all, the main editor, Daniel Bediako. We appreciate their dedication to the project and all their time-consuming writing and editing to help this project become a reality, even under taxing circumstances at times.
