On March 7, 2026, a special church service was held at the Adventist Church in Böblingen, Germany, to mark International Women's Day. This women's service was organized by Silvia Japol.
The topic was already addressed during Sabbath School, recalling how International Women's Day was first celebrated in several European countries in 1911. Women's Day reminds us of the rights women have fought for throughout history, which inequalities still exist, and at the same time the day honors the achievements of women in society and the community.
Biblical examples also show the formative role women can play. Among other things, the two midwives Shifra and Pua from the Book of Exodus were remembered, who courageously defied the Pharaoh's command and thus saved lives. We learn from this that we should stand up for our convictions and values.
Marion Knirr delivered the sermon. She spoke about the tension between dissatisfaction and gratitude and encouraged us to consciously focus on what God gives us. Gratitude can help us perceive the challenges of everyday life in a different way and maintain hope.
Music, speeches, prayers, and Bible discussions organized and led by women rounded off the service. Afterwards, Silvia Japol presented each woman with a gift, and the congregation stayed for lunch together, which provided an opportunity for conversation and exchange.
