The Role of Women in Religious Communities

International Women's Day 2025 in Corunna, Spain

The event highlighted the importance of the role of women in the religious community and their participation in the mission of the church.
On Sabbath, March 1, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in A Coruña observed the International Women's Day of Prayer with a special program organized by the Women's Ministries Team. The celebration aimed to pray for the fundamental role of women in the religious community and to encourage their active participation in the life and mission of the church.
A Message from Jesus to Women
The day began with a morning sermon given by Pastor Diego Angulo, based on the biblical story of the woman with an issue of blood, according to the Gospel of Mark 5:21-34. This message, written by theologian Charissa Torossian, highlighted Jesus' unconditional love for women, especially those marginalized by the society of the time. Jesus, by referring to women as “daughters,” demonstrated his compassion and recognition of their dignity, a message that touched all in attendance. The reflection culminated with a moment of prayer on how we should consider women according to Jesus' teaching.
A workshop to reflect and strengthen the community
In the afternoon, Luzday Delgado, Daniela Leal and Begoña Guerrero led an interactive workshop entitled “Discovering the Joy of Being His Daughter,” divided into three key segments.
Active participation of women in the church: This section discussed how to strengthen the presence of women in the life of the church, recognizing the gifts and abilities that God has given to each woman to contribute to the mission of evangelism.
Breaking stereotypes: The cultural roles imposed on women and how these can limit their development inside and outside the church were addressed. Attendees reflected on the importance of challenging these perceptions to enable women to fully exercise their talents and vocations.
Creating a safe and inclusive church: The last part of the workshop focused on strategies to make the church a welcoming space where each person, especially women, feel valued and protected.
A closing of communion and commitment
The day concluded with a snack that allowed the conversations initiated during the workshop to continue in a relaxed atmosphere. This space for fellowship strengthened ties and encouraged the creation of support groups among the women of the congregation.
This event reaffirmed the commitment of the Adventist Church in A Coruña to the dignity and value of women, highlighting the biblical conviction that both men and women are created in the image of God. The celebration not only served to pray and reflect, but also to inspire positive change within the community, promoting respect, inclusion and equality.
